We buy Classical 33rpm
Records. We also buy Jazz and Popular LPs - i.e. Beatles Jimi
Hendrix etc. We prefer classical LPs with solo violin and cello
performances rather than symphonic orchestral recordings. There are
too many exceptions to list here. Should you wish to sell mint or
near mint examples of Violin LPs or any of the three labels below
please get in touch by email. Please include your location and if
possible a phone number. We do not offer a free valuation service
by email or phone.

This blunt article is
certainly not meant to put off perfectly genuine sellers.
Unfortunately we get swamped with emails from valuation seekers
who, even when offered a fair price by email, will simply sell
their items for a fraction more to somebody in their locality or
use the figures as start prices for Ebay auctions. Many records
have several variations only identifiable by spotting small
differences. Without a visual inspection of labels, vinyl and
sleeves it would be foolish to make precise offers on the basis of
random lists, unless they have been carefully compiled by an
experienced collector. In case you have absolutely no idea how much
you would like to be paid for your records the least we expect is a
ballpark figure. We are not interested in collections which have
been cherry picked by dealers or relatives. We do not visit distant
locations to view LPs unless there is a realistic option to
purchase there and then. From a buyer's perspective, when sellers
refuse to state even an approximate asking price, before they
decide what final price they will accept, chances are that they are
primarily interested in a free inspection/valuation of their
items.
Recently a guy called Jon
Lisle made contact, wanting to sell 7000 records, which are stored
in Sheffield. He could not provide photos nor any kind of accurate
description. In good faith an arrangement was made to go and look
at them. Non refundable London Sheffield train tickets were bought
on the understanding the LPs were for sale after inspection. It was
not until the very last minute that Mr. Lisle let slip his true
intention: He wanted an expert to search through 7000 records
without any option of actually being able to buy any. Any records
Vinylconnections might have wished to buy "would have to be left
with him". His declared intention was to then get the highest possible offers from
other dealers. If Vinyl Connections could beat their offers he
would "send the LPs in a few weeks, possibly months". In other words:
Jon Lisle was hoping an absolute mug would travel from London to
Sheffield and value 7000 LPs for absolutely nothing and pay the
train fare too. The inevitable total loss of a London/Sheffield train fare was
regrettable, but preferable to an entirely wasted day, the only possible outcome of the journey.
We do appreciate the effort
many sellers make by compiling lists of their LP collections.
Unfortunately most of these lists are of little or no help to
buyers. Without having viewed a record, having seen its
label/matrix markings and especially having checked its condition
for flaws, anything else is pure guesswork. To get started well
focused close up photos of the STACKED PILE OF
LPs showing the printed details on the spines of your LPs are
far more useful than lists. It's important that these close ups are
taken and sent in high resolution. The file size of the JPG in this
example has been reduced to preserve limited space on our server.
For LP spines to be legible and in focus, LPs need to be piled as
neatly as possible and the direction of print lined up, avoiding
upside down lettering.
